We Are The Hero of Our Own Story

This quotation from Mary McCarthy cannot be more correct.

People around me, not only those currently in INTEC, but also those whom I have known throughout my life as well as the politicians around the globe, have been trying to achieve the impossible - proving to others that they are of the better

 breed in terms of basically anything.

Well, you get the idea. 

As you are in your quest to show to the world that you are at the top of the world, you slowly gain power, because according to Darwinism, outsmarting others for survival is a crucial step. To say it in another way, humans have to use the power they have gotten to maintain the possibility of survival. Without power, we can hardly survive.

Power. One of the millions of five-letter words that has done a pretty good job in summarizing the situation of our world today. Perhaps this very word defines the extinction of the dinosaurs. Think of the K-T impact hypothesis. The reptiles (or mammals; scientists love to confuse themselves) had the brute strength while some were as small as a turkey, and they were once the rulers of our planet. Just because they did not have the needed intelligence to maintain their population, they were wiped out from the surface of the earth, barbequed alive.

Let's analogize dinosaurs as humans. We are too engrossed in reigning superiority that we forget about the silent formation of our own destruction, spelled by our own mouth, molded by our own hands. With our incomparable intelligence, we dominate the world. We claim ourselves to be the so-called heroes of our planet.

Irony. Killing animals, burning plants, and wiping other species like we sweep the dust on the floor while at the same time, some advocates and  samaritans try to save the animals and plants, perform taxidermy if they are too late, and fight for the cause to reduce global warming. 

And here is where the doubt comes in: What is there to prove if at the end of the day, abuse of power is a norm?

Therefore, instead of posing on top of the world and shouting "I am the Hero of the World", why not we just become the hero of our own story? We cheer our friends up, help our families when they need us, save the adorable lizards, and water the plants. At least, we have done our parts.
